出版から100年以上たった今でも世界中で愛されている『ピーターラビット』。
2018年に実写映画化され、第２弾『ピーターラビット2 バーナバスの誘惑』が今作である。

ウサギのピーターたちが暮らす自然豊かな湖水地方。ピーターたちといつも仲良くしてくれる、大好きなビア。
3年前に隣に引っ越してきた動物嫌いのマグレガー。前作でのピーターたちとの大攻防戦を繰り広げた。
湖水地方で出会い、恋人同士となった二人が、ついに結婚！二人の幸せをウサギたちは祝福していた。
しかし、内心はピーターは不安であった。父親面をして何かと叱ってくるマグレガーに嫌気が差してもいた。
少し前にピーターの描いた絵を売り出した、画家のビア。ピーターの絵は評判になり、「絵を描くウサギ」として
知名度は上がっていた。ある日、ビアとマグレガーのもとに大手出版社から連絡が入る。ビアがうさぎたちをモデルに書いた
絵本『ピーターラビット』を売り出したいというお誘いがあった。
ビアとマクレガーがビジネスチャンスを手にするためロンドンに向かう。ピーターたちも同伴する。その際に、ひょんとしたきっかけで亡き父の親友だったというバーナバスというウサギと出会う。都会で生き延びるための刺激的な知恵を教えれる。
ピーターは、父親の面影をかさね、バーナバスを慕うようになっていく。。。

映画版ピーターラビットは、原作のほんわり温かい水彩画の雰囲気とは一味違う、原作を度外視したハチャメチャな実写化映画だ。ウサギ含む動物たちと人間の農作物をめぐる熾烈な争いが、オーバー演出すぎるドタバタギャグで展開され、バイオレンスやブラックユーモアも盛り込まれつつ、大人も楽しめる世界に変身している。前作も話題となった『ホーム・アローン』的な撃退パートもみどころの一つである。
「誰も自分のことを分かってくれない」と自分の殻に閉じこもってしまうことがある。自分から心を開けば、誤解もほどけ、苦手な人とも分かり合えることが出来る。そんなメッセージがつまったスリリングだが、最後は心温まる映画だ。

More than 100 years after its publication, Peter Rabbit is still loved around the world. It was made into a live-action film in 2018 and the second film, Peter Rabbit2 :The Runaway , is now available.

The Lake District is rich in nature, where Peter the rabbit and his friends live. Peter and his friends always get on well with their favourite, Bea.
McGregor, who moved in next door three years ago and hates animals. He had a big fight with Peter and his friends in the previous film. They meet in the Lake District, become lovers, and finally get married! The rabbits congratulate them on their happiness.
But secretly Peter is worried. He is fed up with McGregor’s fatherly attitude and his constant scolding.
Not long ago, Peter’s painting was sold by a painter named Bea.
Peter’s paintings had been well received and he had become well known as the “painting rabbit”. One day, Bea and McGregor are contacted by a major publishing house. They want to sell Peter Rabbit, a children’s book that Bea has written using the rabbits as models. Beer and McGregor travel to London to take advantage of the business opportunity, and Peter and his friends accompany them. On their way, they happen to meet a rabbit called Barnabas, who was a close friend of their late father. He gives them some exciting tips on how to survive in the city. Peter begins to admire Barnabas, who reminds him of his father.

The film version of Peter Rabbit is not the warm and fuzzy watercolours of the original story, but rather an outrageous live-action film that takes the original story too far. The fierce battle between the animals, including the rabbits, and the humans over the crops is played out with over-the-top slapstick gags, violence and black humour, transforming it into a world that adults can enjoy. The film also features a “Home Alone”-like fightback sequence, which was also a hit in the previous film.
It’s easy to get stuck in your shell and think that no one understands you. But if you open your heart, you can unravel misunderstandings and make friends with people you don’t like. That is the message of this film.
It’s a thrilling but heart-warming film at the end.
